Play Ball!

This is Kaylee and Anna. They are good friends and neighbors too. They recently started playing on a baseball team and they are having lots of fun together.

Kaylee loves playing baseball and she is pretty good at it too. She has decided that I pretty much wasted the first nine years of her life by not letting her play baseball because if she had been playing for 9 years she would probably be a professional by now. Sorry, Kaylee, If only I had known about your talent.

Here is Kaylee getting ready for her first time at bat. She was so excited, but wondered "why do they make these helmets so tight?"

Her friend Anna was just as excited and luckily Anna and Kaylee both got a hit and got on base. Hooray!

Here is Kaylee at 3rd base seriously considering if she should try to run to home plate if the next batter gets a hit.

Then she decided to shake it off, not be so serious and just have fun.

Our team played these guys in gold. I think their name is the Tigers. Don't they look menacing?

Here is a devoted baseball fan. (as long as she has something to nibble on) Her name is Grace and she likes watching baseball better than playing it.

This is Coach Matt. He is a great guy. He started this sports league in our neighborhood. His philosophy is that children should be able to play sports and it shouldn't have to cost a lot of money. Each child paid $6.50 to buy a shirt and a baseball hat and other than that the whole experience is free. Way to go Coach Matt. Lots of people think up great ideas, but very few put those great ideas into practice. Thanks for all of the time you devote to helping children learn sports and have fun. You are a hero!

Coach Matt couldn't make it all happen without other devoted coaches. This is Coach Stan and Kaylee really likes him because he is so patient and encouraging. He is a hero too!

This is Paige. She came out to support Kaylee and she has a smile on her face even though the game was at 2 p.m. and it was getting warm.

The name of Kaylee and Anna's team is the Green Frogs. That name was Kaylee's idea and she was so surprised and happy when the majority of the team voted to call themselves the Green Frogs. One of the other name suggestions given by a young man on the team was the Boogers because he said sometimes those are green. I had to try very hard not to laugh because he was so serious when he suggested that name. We all had the best time at the game on Saturday. Nobody keeps score and every member of the team gets a chance to bat every inning. We parents take turns bringing treats and everyone visits and has a great time. Thanks Coach Matt and Coach Stan for making it all possible!
